"The beauty of the Peking
Opera robe has a very special meaning for me.
Magnificently embroidered and extremely theatrical, it
reminds me of a very special gift given to me by George
Abbott, the director/playwright who was my mentor. For
many years I admired a Ming Emperor's prayer robe that
hung in his living room. It was blue brocade with lots of
solid gold thread. It became the focal point for my first
apartment and I still treasure it."
