The geomorphological work in Akliman is continuing,
and the team is now moving further inland than
before.
We are hoping to document the slow filling in of the
bay over the past few thousand years. One way that we are
able to document change is by analyzing the layers of
silt, clay and sand that have accumulated over thousands
of years.
In the photo Mark explains the difference between
surface layers and underlying silty deposits.
Mark and Alex discuss the
differences between two layers
in a geomorphological core just after it has been
removed.
