July 5, 1998 Today we bid farewell to Dr. David Smart, a co-founder of the Black Sea Trade Project. Dr. Smart is writing a catalog of the Archaic and Classical (6th-4th century BC) pottery from the Sinop Museum. He and his assistants Tibor Csank and Aylin Tuncer have been working in the Museum depot, drawing and photographing ceramics from previous excavations in cemeteries near the city. They studied over one hundred vases this summer, with more work scheduled for the winter.
