July 7, 1998 We have now completed the second day of the archeological field survey of the Akliman delta. Our team of eight has now recorded data on 18 fields, each about half a hectare or more in size. We walk through plowed fields spread ten meters apart picking up pieces of pottery, stone tools and other evidence of pre-modern use. The information we are collecting will allow us to compare the distribution of archeological finds in areas that were farmed, lived in and abandoned in different times.
