Day 8
pottery finds

The Journal of the
Black Sea Project

July 8, 1998

We continued surveying of the hills overlooking the Akliman delta today.

The team is working together on field analysis, and we are moving quickly. We documented a multi-period site today at Akdogan, near the village of Bostancili. We found Hellenistic (4th-1st c. BC), Byzantine (4th-12th c. AD) and Ottoman (15th-19th c. AD) pottery.

Even though there was a dense scatter of pottery (about 18,000 sherds/ha) we only collected 12 pieces and recorded the rest of our sample with a digital camera.
