Day 11
Turkish hospitality

The Journal of the
Black Sea Project

July 11, 1998

Today while surveying we were treated to some of the hospitality that makes the Black Sea coast of Turkey famous.

First thing this morning we surveyed in the fields of Mehmet Tortop, a local farmer. While we were working in his fields, Mehmet bey arranged to have his family bring out pitchers of ayran, a yogurt drink popular in Turkey. He also wanted to bring out soup and bread, but we insisted that we had to press on.

At the next farm, we were treated to milk, bread, butter and cherry jam, all fresh and made from ingredients grown on the farm.
