July 12, 1998 No rest for the weary today. We got out early in the morning today to drill a core 12 meters deep into the ancient lake and bay sediments of the central valley. Our work went smoothly and quickly, with the assistance of Erkan Tuncel, our driver. We were able to get home in time for a lunch of manti (Turkish ravioli) and pide (Turkish pizza), prepared by Betul, Aylin and Aysun, who had stayed in.
