Day 13
an ancient bay

The Journal of the
Black Sea Project

July 13, 1998

Today we wrapped up our work in Bostancili [see map] overlooking the shore at Akliman, the beach at the end of the Karasu river delta. Bostancili sits at the head of an ancient bay that has been filled in by the Karasu river.

This year's survey suggests that the slopes of Bostancili facing the bay were unoccupied except for a few small homesteads in antiquity, like the one we documented on July 8.
