The Journal of the
Black Sea Project

July 19, 1998

Today we had a chance to be tourists around the main town of Sinop.

Some of the group visited the black sand beaches at the end of the Boz tepe peninsula. Others visited some of the historical buildings in town, like the Alaattin mosque, built after the capture of Sinop by the Selcuk Turks in 1214. Later in the thirteenth century the Pervane medrese, a religious school, was joined to the mosque.
