Introduction
we're "virtually" here!

The Journal of the
Black Sea Project

June 12, 1998

We -- Fred Hiebert, Owen Doonan, Alex Gantos, and other archaeologists -- have only just arrived here at the Black Sea. It's our third field season of the Black Sea Project. The real work will begin July 1; for now we're busy planning our schedules and testing our new digital equipment.

Meanwhile, bookmark this page: Starting July 1, we'll be sending daily reports of each day's progress, along with photos, directly to this website. You'll be able to take part in our work as it happens.

This is the Museum's first venture on a virtual expedition, and we're very excited. Just think: if we discover something, you'll be the first to know.

Be sure to check our journal every day. Use the "Day" links in the lefthand frame to view each day's entry, or click on our names to send us a message. No matter what corner of the world you're calling from, we'd like to hear from you.

--more later, dinner's ready.
