The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology will again offer its popular summer camp, Anthropologists in the Making, during summer 2008. Penn Museum’s world-renowned collection of fine artifacts from Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Asia, Africa, Polynesia and the Americas allows children a unique chance to investigate human history and diversity up close and personal. On a typical summer day, campers delight in the mythology, regalia, dance, music, cooking, art and customs from both long ago civilizations and modern cultures. Through gallery tours, arts and crafts, games and theatrics, treasure hunts, and special guest performances, children will uncover the secrets of the past.
The museum provides a snack and juice at midmorning. Lunch is at noon. Most children bring a brown-bag from home or lunch may be purchased from the Museum Café. The afternoon is largely recreational with at least an hour of outdoors free-play at a Penn campus field (weather permitting). Camp ends at 3pm. Pre-camp supervision (8am–9am) and after-camp service (3pm–5pm) is also available for an additional fee.
