The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology will again offer its popular summer camp, Anthropologists in the Making, next summer. Camp is scheduled for June 22 - August 14, 2009. Learn all about the 2009 program

Camp Description
Children ages 7 through 13 can participate in a day camp that takes them through time and across continents at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology on Penn's campus in Philadelphia. Each week highlights a different theme, offering campers the opportunity to enjoy one week or all eight.

Penn Museum’s world-renowned collection of fine artifacts from Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Mesopotamia, Asia, Africa, Polynesia and the Americas allows children a unique chance to investigate human history and diversity up close and personal. On a typical summer day, campers delight in the mythology, regalia, dance, music, cooking, art and customs from both long ago civilizations and modern cultures. Through gallery tours, arts and crafts, games and theatrics, treasure hunts, and special guest performances, children will uncover the secrets of the past.

Daily Events
Each day begins at 9am with an interactive gallery tour, followed by hands-on projects and activities to illustrate the theme of the week. Activities may include archaeological investigations, deciphering hieroglyphs, and mask making—just to name a few.

The museum provides a snack and juice at midmorning. Lunch is at noon. Most children bring a lunch from home or food may be purchased from the Museum Café. The afternoon is largely recreational with at least an hour of outdoors free-play at a Penn campus field (weather permitting). Camp ends at 3pm. Pre-camp supervision (8am–9am) and after-camp service (3pm–5pm) is also available for an additional fee.
