I am an indigenous Shamanic Practitioner (Muscogee Creek & Blackfeet Indian) with an interest in the tattoos of the mummies found in the Altai region of Siberia and of the Woodland Tribes of the Southeastern US. I have an interest in all animals, but I have a special kinship with Caribou, Snake, Crow & Horse. Could you direct me to an article, book or person (available in the US) that could help me in my search for information and images--partciularly on the Altai region? I have a letter out to archaeologists in Siberia already--but have not heard back from them, as of yet. I am thanking you in advance for your time & assistance. Sincerely, Silverstar of Red Crow

My name is Meghan and I'm 21 years old. Although I am currently attending University, I am originally from New Jersey. There are only two modifications to my body; ear piercings and a tattoo. Piercing my ears began when I was 8 years old and I went for my tattoo when I was 18 years old. Currently I have 4 piercings in my left ear, two piercings in right ear, and a 4 leaf clover tattoo located on the inside of my right ankle. Since I can remember, I have been fascinated with women who have had many earings in their ears. I just think that a woman who has many piercings in her ears is beautiful and it's a tasteful way of expressing herself. Also with deciding to get my tattoo, it's expressing both the daring and spontaneous side of this 90's woman, yet it's showing the world my heritage--which I'm obviously proud to announce. Being 100% irish, is one of the biggest and best aspects of myself that I am not embarrassed to hide. Whenever I look at my 4 leaf clover tattoo, I am constantly reminded of the wonderful unity and uniqueness of my irish family.

I think that body modifications or art on the body is a beautiful thing if you are really doing it for you not for the social reasons or because your boyfriend wanted some security or reassurance that you love him. I myself am going to get a tattoo when i turn 18 for myself because i am a cherokee indian and i am proud of my heritage. --Gwen

I am 20 yrs old. I recently got my tongue pierced. Pain was bearable, it's fun, and it's sexy. But realistically speaking, it's just a stupid self-mutilation act to either rebel, make a statement, or simply improve oral sensation. After doing it, I thought - why? Why stick a metal bar into my tongue for any reason. My poor complex muscle in my mouth cannot naturally move any more. But we do stupid things when sex is part of the deal. --unknown

I am Thirteen years old and currently I have Two holes in each ear, one in my nose and I also have both of my nipples peirced. Supprisingly enough my mom wasn't pissed off at all in fact I think she was impressed. For me body peircing is a way of self exploration and expression!! Dare to be different. who cares if other people can't accept you for who you are as long as you're happy thats all that matters !!!!!!!!!! Thanks ya'll love --April

My name is Shereen and Im 20 from Queens New York. Well, I decided back in '95 that I wanted a tattoo but at the time I was underage. As soon as I turned 18 and was in college in '97, I got my first tattoo. I remember feeling very scared because I heard horror stories about tattoo pain but it didnt hurt that much. It felt like rug burn. My first tattoo is a tribal design on my left arm. I decided to get another tattoo that same year in November. I got my name tattooed on my left leg. It is small and I put it there as a personal statement to always be true to myself. This past summer I got another tattoo. This one is on my back. It is in chinese and it says, beautiful woman. I got that one because I am a beautiful woman. My beauty comes from the inside and flows outward. Finally, I decided that I could take the pain of tattooes so I might as well get the tongue ring I wanted so badly. So, for the new year, I got a new hole. I pierced my tongue on January 10. It didnt hurt at all when she was piercing it. I didnt even feel her pierce it. I felt the ring go into my tongue and that was about it. My tongue did swell though. I sucked on ice to keep the swelling down. My mother doesnt like it but I can not take it out.... I love it too much. It is a wonderful toy. I play with it whenever I get bored. Thats all folks!!
