Museum of Florida History
A pair of moccasins from the American Section are on loan in Tallahassee to the Museum of Florida History. The "Seminole People of Florida: Survival and Success" exhibit details the history of the Seminole people in Florida from the 1850s to the present. More than 150 artifacts, a recreated trading post, and a traditional Seminole dwelling called a chickee aids in telling the story of a culture that has survived and become very successful. view website>>

The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Fondation Pierre Gianadda Martigny, Switzerland
Two objects from Penn Museum's Egyptian Section are on display at the Met for their "Gifts for the Gods" exhibition, which focuses on the art and significance of Egyptian metal statuary. This exhibition will be at the Met from October 16, 2007 to February 18, 2008, and at the Fondation Pierre Gianadda Martigny in Switzerland from March 14, 2008 to June 8, 2008. view website>>
Radiance of the Rain Forest: Featherworks in Ancient Peru

One object from the American Section is on display at the Met for this exhibition. "Radiance" presents works that show the impressive range of ceremonial and secular items that ancient Peruvian people covered with brilliantly colored feathers from the Amazonian rain forest. Radiant blues, yellows, reds, and greens embellished objects such as ear ornaments, pectorals, fans, headdresses, miniature ritual offerings, and large-scale hangings, all of which visitors can see examples of on display. view website>>

Beijing World Art Museum
Penn Museum loans 48 important and representative objects from its world renowned Near East collection for this major, international effort. The objects, including the world famous, carved Assyrian relief panel from the Northwest Palace at Nimrud, jewelry from the Royal Cemetary of Ur, a famed head of Gudea, and an inlaid column from Tell al Ubaid, will constitute the entire Mesopotamian section of the new exhibition. The long-term exhibition highlights six great world civilizations-- Mesopotamia, India, Maya, Greece, Rome, and Egypt-- featuring objects loaned from major European and United States institutions. This loan marks the first time that the Museum has had the opportunity to bring its collection to mainland China. view website>>

Six objects are on display from the Near Eastern and Babylonian Sections, including a large fragment of the Urnammu stele. "Babylon" brings together nearly 400 works on loan from 13 countries in an attempt to reconcile Babylon’s history with its legend. Spanning five millennia, it pays tribute both to the historical and cultural importance of this ancient city and the way in which its reality was later transformed into the mythical Babylon. "Babylon" will be on display in the Hall of Napoleon at the Louvre Museum in Paris from March 14 to June 2, 2008, and at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin from June 26 to October 5, 2008. view website>>

Ten objects from the American Section are on loan for this exhibition, which presents more than 200 artifacts from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The exhibition is an exploration of the scientific principles and processes that allowed the Yup'ik people to survive in the sub-arctic tundra of the Bering Sea coast.

Mami Wata: Arts for Water Spirits in Africa and the African Atlantic World

Fowler Museum at UCLA
Two objects from the African section are on loan for this exhibition, which features 120 works of art including sculpture and paintings from national and international collections. "Mami Wata" presents the dynamic visual arts associated with a host of African and African Diaspora water spirits that take the form of mermaids and snake charmers, from west, central, southern, and eastern Africa, as well as the African Atlantic world of the Caribbean, Brazil, and the United States.
"Mami Wata" wll be on exhibit at the following venues: Fowler Museum at UCLA from April 6, 2008 to July 27, 2008; Chazen Museum of Art, University of Wisconsin, Madison from October 18, 2008 to January 11, 2009; and the National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Institution from April 1, 2009 to July 26, 2009. view website>>
