The Fellowship is open to archaeologists and language specialists who are assigned a substantial amount of material from the Museum’s excavations and/or collections. They are also open to scholars who have been given permission to study aspects of the permanent collections of the Museum in the Ancient Near Eastern and Mediterranean Sections.

Areas of Study		Rodney S. Young Fellowship: Italy, southern France, Greece, the Aegean islands, and Asia Minor
Terms		Only one Fellow will be appointed in any given year. Fellowship is for one academic year, but in exceptional circumstances may be renewed for an additional year. Fellows must be in residence at the Museum during the University’s academic year (normally September 1-May 31), and may offer a graduate-level seminar on their research. In addition, Fellows will be required to give a public lecture at the Museum in the spring. [The stipend for 2006-07 was $35,000. Fellows will also receive health and dental benefits and academic support including office space, computer and library privileges.] Fellows are required to submit a report within three months of the end of their appointment and are expected to produce a substantial publication based on their research. The University of Pennsylvania Museum will have first rights to publish manuscripts resulting from the work done by those holding the Fellowship.
Applications Materials		Applicants should submit hard copies of a brief statement outlining the proposed research, a full curriculum vitae, and a list of three referees. Applications should be submitted by December 15, 2005. Selection of the Fellows will be announced by early March 2006.
